This is the car I wanted to build. Minus the Pony wheels.

Why the ieajf would someone buy an 88TC brand new to swap a 5.0 into?
This car is why my car is staying with the engine it was meant to have :)
I bet that was fun with that huge ABS M/C in the way.
I wouldn't do the swap myself, but that's a nice TC! I'd buy it and leave it a 351, I like it.
interesting choice of steering wheel....
its a truck steering wheel isnt it??
My guess would be that the original buyer wanted a V8, 5-speed T-Bird and Ford wouldn't sell him one, so he made his own. Kinda like how somebody might take a Solstice and drop an LSx engine in it nowadays...
For the record, the T-Birds used in the Bondurant driving school back in the day had the same swap, and Motor Trend magazine was trying to convince Ford to build an HO/5-speed Bird, so this guy wasn't alone...
Looks like a Super Coupe wheel to me...
I almost hate to admit it, but I like that car!
Nope it came out of a Tempo. I know this becasue I have one. :hick:
Well now we know an efi 351 will fit under a stock hood.
What year? My '85 Tempo's wheel looked nothing like that - it looked just like the two-spoke base T-Bird wheel. I know a lot of early 90's Fords had a wheel with the big center because of the airbag (in fact, I'd venture as far as to say Ford only had one airbag wheel in the early 90's and used it in EVERYTHING), but that one looks fancier than the one I'm thinking of...
That wheel is a non-airbag wheel that was used in 1986-1989 Tempo's/Escorts & EXP's.

We already knew (http://"http://foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?p=36392#post36392") an EFI 351W would fit under a stock hood. ;)
yeah, it's not a Super coupe steering wheel. SC wheels have the SC logo smack dab in the center.
My '94 Tempo has that same wheel too.
Opps, that's right, I forgot that Tempo's & Topaz's had the automatic motorized seat belts so they didn't get airbags as standard equipment, it was an option.
So that wheel remained standard until 1994, the last year for the Tempo/Topaz.

Back to the original auction, that car still has no bids???
I'd buy that thing for $3500 in a heartbeat! (if I had $3500 to spend on such a car :( )
I saw that car awhile back(14 months) . He has been trying to sell it for a couple years I'd guess. He has done alot to it and wants his $ back. The big issue is the body. It needs paint and has lots of minor surface rust kinda creeping through in the usual spots. I did not see any rust through but did not look close either. All in all a decent pretty clean car if you could do the body fix up. I did not look real close as I was not looking to buy, more just stopped outa curiosity.
