IS there something that hold the speed limit for example is there something you can take out of the car that will make the top speed faster a computer chip or relay fuse something
If its a 5.0 i know that you can get a different computer...89 and earlier (i believe its those years) have no speed limiter...or you can get a custom speed chip burnt for 200 or so dollars.
we need to know more about your car
I just bought 2 Mustang GT speed density computers for $30.They don't have the speed limiters.
Because going 120+ is so cool and so safe in these cars.
its a 1987 5.0 and it has a couple of upgrades like headers and exhuast work
the engine has been rebuild no performance stuff but stock items so if i buy a computer for an earlier model it should work because i think the most it probally goes is 85 im not shure but i never pushed it that much my dash is digital
Your car will go more than 85mph, it's just the digital speedo that stops at 85. There is a mod you can do to your speedo, to make it go to 199 mph.
It will go much faster than 85. I can't see why it wouldn't hit triple digits.
Nice user name, care to change it?
But, Zach, d00d, going 155 is teh shiznit. lolololol!!!!11
Yeah. The engine. Then replace it with a more powerful one.
Top speed is not the measure of a car's power, nor are you proving anything at all. These cars are probably stable at speeds higher than 100 anyway.
Top speed of a stock 5.0 Cougar (1987-88 body for better aerodynamics) is in the 120-125 mph neighborhood. Mustang GT's from that era did 142 mph top speed, thanks to the aero front end, ground effects and hatchback. The 1987-88 Turbo Coupe did 143 mph, again due to the pointy aero front end and back window. To get a Cougar to go that fast on the street would require more than additional horsepower. I would imagine rear end lift due to the absence of a slanted back window would be greatly increased. I know a few guys running Fox Cougars at the track; they have no problems going fast (140+ mph) but I never hear any good comments about the handling. The rear end is probably pretty squirrelly. A good spoiler at the very least would be required.
I have gone over 100 mph in these cars, on the open highway at night with no one around. Let's just say that's how I know Jeep Grand Cherokees ain't all that. ;) Probably the biggest complaint I've ever had about these cars is the inherent wheel imbalance/wobbling problem that never seems to go away. Believe me, it gets much worse over 100 mph. Otherwise it's not too bad. Emergency maneuvers in a stock car would almost certainly result in an accident/injury/death. A better handling car (wider tires, lowering, better springs, urethane bushings, etc.) would be much more stable. I wouldn't trust a mostly stock car though....too many things that could break. Much better that key suspension/steering components are upgraded first.
You '87 Bird does not have a speed limiter.... And a '85 computer would not work anyway, all 5.0s before '86 were either CFI or carbed.
An 87-88 Cougar V8 5.0 can do 200 Km/h ?????
A Mustang can do nearly 230 Km/h ????
A TC can do past of 230 Km/h (not surprise....)
i Heard that an XR7 manual (mn-12) can do 240......it´s real ?
Wow, i didn´t know what was the top speed on those cars. It´s nice to know that these cars have decent performance for the day.
How much speed you can raise in a 83-86 body cougar with a 5.0 with 200hp ?
Just about. It's supposedly closer to 235kp/h or 147mph.
I took my stock cougar to 132 by the speedo, I dont think that my speedo was off by alot but I would never do it again. That was probably one of the dumbest things that I have done. my speedo is accurate by those cops thingy's that say the speed limit is 55 your going XX. It said that my speedo is only off 2 miles an hour at 75 mph. every time I see one of those I say" wanna see how fast I can make it flash?" and then floor it.
