Title: Roadrunner Converters--opinions?
Post by: ZondaC12 on May 14, 2007, 01:12:12 AM
yep id like a high stall torque converter. i always see these on fleabay : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AOD-HIGH-STALL-TORQUE-CONVERTER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ63692QQihZ004QQitemZ140116425321QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

now i searched here and corral, and on there found, sure enough: http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=598840&highlight=roadrunner

what i expected "you get what you pay for" yeah yeah i know i should save up and spend the money and get an Alabama converter or something better. BUT this one does have a one year warranty, and unlimited miles. correct me if im wrong but time itself with the converter sitting there isnt going to wear it out, use does right? so according to that if i made a point to drive the living piss out of my car, literally foot to the floor all the time, launching HARD and it failed theyd replace it.

another thing, as i said in my HO conversion thread I intended to still baby the heck out of this car (and i do *TRY* to do that;)  its mainly the exhaust im dead honest i love hearing it wind up fast) but seriously 80% of the time im pretty easy on it. wouldnt it have to be REALLY pily built to not withstand everyday driving? hell ive got a new-in-box tranny cooler thats like 10" by 6" in my basp00get, dad musta bought it never used it no idea why, and when im sitting at stoplights for more than like 20 seconds (i know em well so i do it right when i get there) i put er in neutral, thats gotta avoid heat build-up right?

by now you can tell im sitting here PRAYING for positive answers. okay ill 'fess up, *sigh* yep. but be honest if you think its . ill take it like a man. try anyway. i want to wake up the low end but GAAAAHH i cant see spending 2, 3 hundred $ on one of these stupid things!!! i dunno i might do it though those alabama converters seem good and itd be $50 more. i sure got a lot of my grandpa in me, he's cheap as hell. hes good at making stuff last though so more power to him!

God, me and Mikey (fila) and daboss, dmc, and any other of us "kids" i forgot must aggravate the hell out of you guys trying to cheap out on everything. cant wait til im out of rpi and an engineer so i can actually spend lots of money on cars $$. for now i can only dream.....:punchballs: :hick:

save up alittle more and buy a good quality converter.  if that thing fails, it will probably fry the entire tranny with it, leading to an expensive rebuild.  (which is what you get for cheaping out :D)

I bought one very similar to that one off evilbay(just different in color)and it's standing up to my 450hp blown 5.0l very well, have had no problems with it.
These convertors have torington bearings in them and are quite well built for the price.
I would not want to use it with over 500hp but i'll be puttin in my lentech before i get to that point,i say buy it up.
It's better than the stock convertor your using now by leaps and bounds.

Really?  Hmmm, I take back my previous statement then, if it is holding up behind 450HP then 250 shouldn't do any damage.

well actually 225 not quite that high.:hick:  i WISH 250 or something like that. if i ever come across a cheap intake or gt40 heads, like the oppurtunity is dropped in my lap, ill go for it. if not ill be happy with what i got cuz its real fast but i think id actually like to have 250-260 sometime within the next year or so. sort of a little above-and-beyond simply an HO conversion.

i think i might go for this thing though, thanks dominator for just happening to own one of these and thus being able to tell me about it :hick:
