Title: Global warming my ass
Post by: Thunder Chicken on April 06, 2007, 05:55:36 PM
Looks like in April we're set to have our first major storm of the 06/07 season. Al Gore can suck my balls, which by Sunday should be pretty ed cold and in need of a sucking. The TV news said well over 15 centimeters. Here's Environment Canada's official forecast:

Yeah, we had 6" here 2 days ago.

Has absolutely nothing to do with long-term global temperatures or Al Gore, but if it makes you feel good to blame someone - why not right! :D

I take it nobody watched that documentary posted a couple weeks ago on how global warming is a tool to scare people and has absolutely no merit.  Well I did and it made more sense than anything Mr. Gore or Ms. Thatcher have said.  Global warming is a political tool used to make money for everyone but the people they are trying to "protect."

Ex. from that documentary; someone could write a paper on how squirrels collecting nuts has an effect on climate change and get no funding...but someone else could write the same paper and include the words global warming and get all the money they could ever need to sit and watch squirrels collect nuts and see if it has an effect on global warming and climate change......

And...from 1900-1945, global temp rose, CO2 rose; from 1945-1975, global temp fell while CO2 ROSE due to major industrialization of the U.S; from 1975-present global temp rose sharply and CO2 has returned to 1945 levels....yeah...Gore can suck my left maple nut.

....that's all I have to say on the subject....it's not real and never was.

The winters here in NE have been getting warmer on average:

...this year was a bit below average I think.

Oh well, we may have some snowy weather, but our highways aren't clogged with Buick Roadmonsters and Cadillac Fleetwoods traveling at 45 in the fast lane with their blinker on and a snowy white head just barely poking above the headrest, and come August you'll be begging for our weather :flip:

Yes, as a matter of fact, I AM jealous. I'd LOVE to live in FLA or Cali, except for two little problems: Floridians and Californians :D

But I'd take the lack of rusting here in the south along with the much more mild winters as well.  NC is quite a good intermediate.  Even though we did just get a random snow shower after having 70s all week hahaha.

Were at -16* right now, with no change of above freezing weather in the next few days.  But we're ok with that, cause cold weather just prolongs the ice fishing and snowmobiling season.  But spring must be just around the corner because the local dangerous and delicious creatures are getting desperate enough to eat my groceries off the front steps.

North Carolina s a climate i could live with, along with just about any of the middle-southern states. You know - enough of a change in seasons to let you appreciate it, but not enough to make you dread it.

MercCoug50: I retired the snowmobiles for the season back in mid February. It had been an open winter, with only a few snow squalls off the Bay of Fundy providing what little snow we had. We literally did not have a single actual snow storm this year (I consider a "storm" anything that dumps 6" or more, and the most we'd gotten from any single even has been about 3"). Looks like that's set to change tonight though:

Heh - yeah, same in the Boston area - we would have set the record for the lowest snowfall total in recorded history except for the one little storm we got recently near the end of March.

Global Warming! NO but the system is totallyout of wack. The enviroment doesn't know what to do anymore. Am I the only one to notice how we had that ever since el nino is has stayed that way sorta. That el nino is only suposed to be temporay not all the time. Maybe I'm just ranting and maybe not what ever it is  cold here too. Last week it wasin the 70's and now it is 25 WTF is going on. Isn't it suposed to be spring. Well how can we plant the flowers and stuff if it is so  cold. April showers not April snow Flurries. Is there anything we could do to make it back like it used to be? Where when it was winter is snowed and in the spring it was F*&%ing Warm outside.

Yes....wait.  There is no "typical" weather patterens.  Just what you were used to from the past years.  It's crazy to think that the weather is going to be exactly the same year after year, but most people think that is what is supposed to happen.  How are we so sure that the Earth's axis doesn't tilt a thousandth of a degree from "normal" and that isn't what is causing this "change".  Or that we are exactly the same distance away from the sun as last year, not a thousandth of an inch closer, causing this change.

I'd love to go back to "normal" but I'm young enough not to know what that means.  Sometime.....if it takes decades or centuries, the weather patterns, wind currents, water currents, will all align back to what normal was.

I personally don't mind it, I was wearing shorts last week and now a hoody and pants this week.  It will get warm...once cold air from the north stops pushing the warm air away.

See, that's what I keep trying to tell people that whine about the weather (my current bitching at this storm notwithstanding): This kind of weather, while not common, is not unusual in April. Even if we get the full 25 cm (10") it will not set any record for this area.

I find Spring is an odd season anyway - we get a day or two in the 70's in March and everyone thinks it's summer. Then the temp goes back to normal and everyone whines that it's been a cold spring. Our average temperature through March and so far through April has been colder than average, but not abnormally cold - "Seasonably cool" is the way the weather guy describes it.

After a cold winter we all want warm weather, and we all think it's late coming, but it's really not. This snow storm is still gonna suck, though...

Case in point....here in texas it's been like 87 close to 90 degrees...then this. Granted it's not much but still keeps me from washing and waxing her.

What people do not understand is the weather patterns on earth have not really been recorded for long enough to come up with a reliable baseline to guage global warming on.  Actually, all indications recently are that we are caught up in a NORMAL cycle right now.  I agree that we dump way too much  into the air, water and soil, but the planet and all the creatures in it will adapt.  They have before, and they are doing so right now.  I dont think that we should do nothing, but nowhere near the sweeping changes being thrown around recently by the "Politicos" in Washington.
