Post by: quicksilver on April 02, 2007, 04:47:09 PM
well, i am a junior in high school, and in my senior year i want my car to be the standout car, the one everybody knows. this year it is a 95 5.0 mustang that has been converted to a full saleen and everybody knows whos car it is. thats what i want. and for the senior class every year, the top 3 stand out cars get put into the year book. so does anybody have any tips to make my car stand out more?

depends what you want, loud system, i guess maybe neons(make people remember, just not fully legal in some places), loud pipes, you already have nice wheels. Thats all i can think of, maybe flame throwers for the exhaust lol

haha the school made my friend take neon off of his car because it almost caused a few accidents (it did cause 2)  because people would stop looking at the road and just look at his neons. so im pretty sure neon isnt the way to go. im getting full exhaust in next month. but your sound system idea sounds great though!! thanks daboss351!

i don't like neons anyway. I mean your car is sharp looking as it is i mean id defiantly take a second look and be like  thats sweet! My school is all about whos car on the weekend pulls the best times on the track! and whos got the better subs and shiznit. I like a little bass but im more for POWER!!

Lay rubber and make a few smoke clouds, and get a great sounding exhaust. That'll get attention.Intimidate a few people with the car. That leaves an impression.

I would personally rather NOT have everyone know my car....esp in high school....

That will do it.  I only drove my car a few times to school last year, but everyone knew it was me.  I've done nothing to it except but some stickers on the back window.

Loud, throaty exhaust.  HO conversion would help a lot too.  Your car has the looks, now give it the speed and sound of a real V8.

Here at college, all the ricers love to show off around the parking lots....just wait till I get my exhaust done muahaha

haha laying down a cloud does sound like a good idea but there is on little problem, well, its a huge problem, the police station is basicly next to my high school, haha.
around here, nobody goes to the track (just me and a couple of my friends). its all about the look and sound at my high school.
im looking for a explorer motor right now for my car. that should help.

I remember a lot of cars from high school.No-one remembers that guy with the loud stereo.Everyone remembers the cars that had that "sound" that would give you goosebumps, the sound someone can feel when you rev the engine.I had a '76 Grand Prix with a 455.Man,that thing got attention.Black with a black vynel roof and black interior.Sinister looking to say the least. We still talk about that car,and the '78 Trans Am with a 455 as well. They left impressions.Everyone has a "system" in their car.Big deal. Not very memorable. You want to stand out,not blend in.

Flames.

I'm not joking. I had a $#!t brown Nissan pickup in high school. It had 286K miles, rust, 2x4, 5-Speed, with a 110HP 4-Cylinder. I cleaned up the paint, painted the wheels nice, etc, made it look really good. And NOBODY noticed. So I spent a week masking and painting and showed up with HUGE black and red tribal flames (red fade on the tips, airbrushed) that I had painted myself. EVERYBODY noticed. Those and the catless exhaust with a glasspack (LOUD) made it the most talked about car in the history of that school. Sure, there a lot "cooler" cars, but EVERYBODY knew about Mike's Flaming Truck. :D:D;)

Haha nice story!  That's funny.

But yes, a nice explorer 5.0 with some true dual exhaust (with some flowmasters or some other nice throaty lers) would really help.  I know I'm gonna have fun drowning out the ricers with my H.O./Flowmaster combo :D .

haha i love it! my school everyones about the stereos though, not many people care about power, and the stereos and imports is what the girls look for, its kinda gay in my opinion, id rather have a nice v8 American car over a import any day. But i will say i have a nice system planed for what ever i get, plus the mods in the powerplant. everyone keep your fingers crossed for me that i get that lincoln!

I guess I'd half to get some neons. That is for sure to get you noticed at that school. Then when they told me to take them off I'd make them prove that they had the power to. Then I'd smoke the tires until they couldn't see my ride anymore. Ofcorse I've always been more of a trouble maker. If the lawman hasn't proved to you they are illegal I would have to do it. Even if the lawman says so check your local laws and regulations.I couldn't imagine doing something cause the school said so. I remember them telling us we weren't aloud to smoke in our cars while on school property. Did that stop us Ofcourse not. It seems its hard to get people into trouble when memebers of the faculty does it. I do like the idea of tribal flames.

If we are getting into that we can't leave out the drive-reverse-drive. That will really get there attention. Smokin tires and broken parts. Everyone remeber that for some reason.

This goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway.  Take your time with the sideskirts (and anything you do, really).  If you rush to get them on, they will show it.  I know you want to look good for school, but even if you don't have them on until December, if they look great, it will draw attention on the spot.  It could make or break the car if they're not right, and with your car, that would be a shame.

IMO id just keep it as neat, clean and tastefull as you can. those are the ones i notice. i personally would rather fly under the radar. everybody knew my car but for some reason they all loved a white ratty irock rs pos cause it had blue raceing stripes down the center of it. and a 15" sub.

Just be happy you get to even have your Tbird at school and drive it yourself.  I didnt get my license till 2 weeks before college started, so my high school years were mostly spent driving mom's Accord because she always had excuses to not take my Tbird.  Dont ask.

BTW, I agree with Shame.

A nice paint job is probably your best ticket. There was a girl in my school that had a py slow mid 80's Firebird, her dad put some chrome wheels on it and a nice white paint job with blue stripes, everyone thought it was the most awesome car in the world.

I don't remember many nice cars from high school (but I went to a very small school).

One guy in my class had a Chevy Nova....no, not one of the good ones, one of the py little FWD hatchbacks. He painted it bright red, put on aluminum wheels and put in some subs, everyone loved it.

There was also a guy that had lowered S-10 that was really nothing special except he had some subs in it, and again everyone thought it was just awesome.

So yeah...paint.

OMG don't put racing stripes on your car lol well..have somebody photoshop them onto your car to see how it goes..but ask around for skirts though..they take time to look good..God knows it took me 6 months...i had to fix rust on the rockers and under the moulding first..then prep and paint the skirts and everything under the moulding.  and when you get skirts...make sure the double sided tape is off of teh skirts bc it wont' stick if you don't do it correctly..and when u apply double sided tape..dont' take the plastic covering completely offf..then try to stick it on the car..YOU'll F*CK UP!..trust melol..line up the skirts and when you know you got it in teh right spot..drill the holes in teh wells..then pee off the rest of the tape and apply pressure and then screw it in..and make sure you can open and close your door =;).

yeah, no stripes. i was just saying people have no idea what they are looking at and have no taste. people see those and instantly think the car is awesome reguardless of the POS they are on......they have their home. it needs to be done in taste.

Post by: Brypur on April 03, 2007, 01:53:05 AM
1) Make it rumble. (Nasty dogs never wimper.)
2) Make it stand out with paint. (Tasteful. Photoshop first to get the feel.)
3) Put a decent sound system in it. (No need to go overboard.)
4) Make it whip the ricers. (This can get pretty expensive and be slow to complete.)

I would do it in that order if the budget can stand it. And make a budget. Figure out how much each step will cost and make sure you can get the whole thing done in the time allotted. If you can not at least see if you can cover the first three. The rumble will set you apart from the ricers and they will know you are serious. (Everyone loves a muscle car.) Even if you can not back it up with an HO. They will not know the difference. Very few people in your school probably actually care about the performance, it is all about style, sound and sight. And the ones that do care, I seriously doubt they are on the yearbook staff.

Do all that and you will have a dang fine machine worthy of the yearbook!

All about the cam lope.  These days, people hear a car at an intersection that has lope, they go ooooohhhhh aaaahhhhhh.  Make that thing soud pissed.  Give it a good bumpstick with a nice 112LSa and you're golden....  Just my word of advice, from what I can tell, that car looks pretty good in the appearance dept.

Most highschoolers dont understand cam lope. My buddy had a mild 350 in his camaro, that loped, and everyone thought it was running like shiznit.

Make it shine. Keep it clean. Tint the windows. Lower it. Make it quick.

Stripes will cause a love/hate ordeal with the car. Some will love, some will hate. No one can argue with a nice, shiny color.

I personally think racing stripes are too old school for the Bird. However the artistic use of some color and design on the hood and sides could make a big difference. I would go with something that says muscle but in a modern way.

Skip the stripes, and you can probably skip the stereo.
Skip the burnouts and high speed backwards runs.
In other words don't do anything that makes you look like an ass.

If someone tries to call your bluff, pop the pedal and chirp the tires. The sudden, yet short rev of the motor and noticable chirp is the best way to say don't f*^$ with me.

My car stood out when I was in High School and everyone knew it was mine. Of course it is big and white and was a one-of-a-kind. Plus I parked to protect it which unintentionally put it right in the center of attention. I didn't bother with the stereo, I let the mellow rumble of the Flowmasters do my talking. Besides, how are you going to talk to the ladies if your stereo is blasting?
I got most of my attention just idling in line waiting for my turn to leave.

i personally vote for number 2 the clean look will always get someone to have a good case of whiplash as you go cruisin by, but make it mean and make it sound like you got something that a normal ricer wouldnt want to try. a good set of flowmasters with a nice 2"-2.5" pipe is always a good recipie IMPO.

well, i asked some people for some stuff, like gt40 heads, cobra intake manifold, turbo front bumper, and i'll buy some nice fog lights, so hopefully if i can buy these things, it should help me with my apperance and get in that year book! right now the cars i have to worry about is a audi A4, that has rims and exhaust, a audi quatro, both 2006's. and a really nice 2006 dodge 1500, that has been raised, 38" tires, custom flame grill and some other goodies.

What I would do:

- HO conversion (even better w/GT40 or Cobra goodies)
- Exhaust (Flowmaster 40s would be ideal)
- Keep the exterior basically the same

But yet again, this is coming from a guy that has done an HO conversion and has NO exterior mods AT ALL yet.  I guess I prefer to go fast before I look fast.

Your car looks nice and clean, but the paint looks kinda plain Jane. I would consider putting some type of decals maybe on the hood or sides to give some contrast. On the other hand you could go over to the police station and do some donuts or maybe ram your car into the police station. Nothing says attention getter like a picture of your car on the front page of the local news paper!!

Lower the car and put a Turbo Coupe front end on it. If you like the grille, paint it body color. That will smooth things out in the front. Plus, you will get your fog lights with the turbo bumper cover.
That should make a big difference.
I had one of the cooler cars at my high school. I spent every dime I had to make it look cool, and I spent all of my graduation money on a paint job. I hit a deer three weeks later.
The only other car that was as cool as mine was a friend's '91 Mustang GT, which was a pretty cool car. This was before the import trend, so people only modified trucks and RWD cars.
Make your car a little smoother and you will get attention. Stay away from neon lights, burnouts, stereo systems, etc.

Just put exhaust on it. Painting it wont get you very far IMO. My Cougar got alot of attention because it was the nicest car in the lot, and was 20 years old. I graduated last year. Also I raced a few and kicked their asses and no one forgot it. I didnt have exhaust, but I wish I had. Now everyone knows my car, cuz it is loud, I dont have exhaust on it yet haha, just a flowmaster where the ler was and a turndown.

DING DING DING!  We have a winner, exactly what I was going to say.  Your car looks awesome as it is, just needs some minor things.  And remember in the end, you're the one that has to drive the car everyday, if you aren't the most satisified with it, what good have you done?  IMO you're wrong to think you have to impress a bunch of high schoolers, you'll learn in just a couple of years how stupid it all was.

You won't get noticed, though, looking like a 4x4.  Are TC springs lower?  I have a set of TC springs, but I'd hate to waste them on someone that just wants to look cool and doesn't want to carve corners ;) .

Get a TC front or paint the grill body color or black.

Exhaust is fine, admittedly louder usually tends to get the most notice in high school, but again, be sure you can live with it.  I will draw attention from police as well, and get complaints from the neigbors possibly.

A cool license plate might matter some.  Maybe do the sequential turn signals.  If you don't have window tint, that can improve looks a lot, but watch your tint laws as it's annoying to get a ticket for and annoying to remove.  Black only!

A cool stereo unit is always nice, and a good sounding system, huge subs are just annoying (yes I had them once upon a time, I figured out I cared more about keeping the car light).  Modest subs in a nice enclosure can really make the trunk look cool though.  Maybe a couple of 8s?  But I really don't think that matters that much.

Final step, make friends with a lot of girls and always offer them rides, anywhere.  LOL, trust me, this gets attention IF the car looks good to begin with.

I DESPISE side skirts on a Fox car, but that's just me.

If you can do a web page, shoot video and pics and post them on a page, or heck even here, and show people.  Or get videos/pics up on youtube or something of you doing a burnout or things like that and spread that around.  Don't do anything illegal in the videos...it could come back to bite you.  This is just a popularity contest though, you just have to turn it into a big deal even if it's not, kinda like politics lol...

NOTE: No LIVE burnouts, especially not in the school parking lot, just on video in a remote area with no people around.

If you're only lowering the front, I wouldnt go much more than a half inch.  1 inch would make it look like it's sniffing the ground.

A TC front bumper and exhaust would be nice, but make sure you give it the speed to back it all up via an HO conversion.  Nobody likes poser cars...well, unless it's got a fart can and bolt on wing.  But that's not what we're aiming for here :) .

If you want to lower it, I'd recommend the Mustang "c" springs.  It will ride pretty rough though.

well, see, i want to drag race my car and be able to take it aruond the track too. and take girls in my car.. haha i dont think the girls will like it rough;)
my dad is giving me $500 to make it to subdistricts in track this year (easy money) and $700 to make it to regionals , and $700 to be starting reciever in football, $600 to be starting saftey. $500 to make it to regionals in wrestling, $900 if i make it to state for wrestling, and then track stays the same for next year.
so i'll be saving up to by a explorer motor and buying a turbo. 8.8" rear end with 3.73 gears.

You know, I was just looking at your car again. Rear spoiler, cobra R's, you're car is pretty sweet right now.

I agree, TC nose and lower it a bit.
You don't need anything fancy with paint or decals. Tint your windows if they aren't already (if you can and if you would like that). It will add a great contrast to the factory color. Tinted windows, lowered a bit with a new pointy TC nose, I'd say you beat out the Audis and Ram.

Hell... I had a SVO in High school.  I bought the thing for 500 bucks.  And I beat the living HELL out of it.  I went through 3 clutches and 2 rear ends in 4 years.  I ended up getting rid of it when I graduated for a Shelby Lancer :).  I had no idea what i had with either of those two cars, and I got rid of them for peanuts.  They did get me a lot of Tang though LOL!!
