I want it sooooooo badly! What an awesome little DD that would be!
Aerobird Motorsports,
I've never heard of a turbo EXP. So was there also a turbo Escort? I could kick myself for a blunder I made about 10 years ago; I had a non-running '83 V45 Honda Interceptor and a guy jokingly/seriously offered to trade a running/good condition EXP (not turbo) for it. I turned him down because I thought there was no way he was serious unless something was seriously wrong with the car, or he wanted a lot of boot along with the bike. I guess he just really wanted my bike, which I sold for $500 about a year later. The car was definitely worth more than $500.

My mom had an 84 1.6 N/A EXP. Strange looking car, but got some wicked gas mileage!
Did anyone save any pics? It says it was removed by CL staff...
I had an 84 EXP n/a. 48 MPG and it weighed less then 2000 Lbs so it HAULED @$$ too! I really REALLY need to buy it back for a DD.
The ad has been removed :/
My mom used to have an EXP. Something frame-wise kept breaking on it.
Yes there was.
For a couple of years, you could get a Escort GT Turbo too.
Not all '84-'85 Escort GT's were turbocharged though, it was an option.
Here are some pictures of a 1985 Escort GT Turbo.

Some facts I found:
Turbocharged HO EFI (opt.) (VIN Code: 8)
Compression Ratio : 8.0:1
Brake Horsepower : 120 @ 5200 RPM
Torque : 120 ft/lbs @ 3400 RPM
3 dr. Turbo Cpe $9,997.00 2,158lbs
Turbo Coupe included a front air dam, black rocker panel moldings, AM/FM stereo with cassette, lower tu-tone paint/tape treatment, power steering, TR suspension and aluminum wheels, wheel spats, and a rear spoiler.
What the heck is up with that downpipe? Does it have 3 runners?!? Put that on a 2.3. The turbo would probally reach full boost at idle! Cool pics BCA!
That thing looks nice and easy to do maintenence on.
Damm it really sound like I should have bought that EXP from a buddy a couple of years ago. It wasn't turbo but I bet a 2.3T turbo coupe motor would have made that thing move.
And let us not forget the EXP's brother, the Mercury LN7.
Too late. ;)

yeah, not a turbo coupe 2.3, well maybe in one of those. 2.3 wiring harness spliced in with the tempo/topaz 2.3 wiring and maybe tranny, 2.3 tempo motor mounts.... hmm.....
Back when I got into Fords I bought a '84 Lynx (same as Escort) that got 35 mpg with cold a/c. loved that car. I always wanted to do a 302/AOD swap on one of those. It would require a Chevette or Mustang II front subframe tho.
Too bad it wasn't the 1984 Lynx RS Turbo......a one year only offering.
My first car was a 1982 Escort 3-door with a 4-speed. I could easily get 40 mpg with it. I still have a soft spot for those cars and it would be neat to stumble across one of these turbo cars in mint cond.

That Lynx was very good looking for an econobox. I thought so back when they were new, and i still think so now. The second generation, with the asymmetrical grill, were ever better.
