Title: where to install aftermarket water temperature sending unit
Post by: whitebeastxr7 on January 14, 2005, 05:39:09 PM
I have a 1988 XR-7 with a 302 and will be installing an Autometer electrical water temperature guage. I am wanting to keep the stock temperature guage along with the aftermarket one. I am trying to figure out where to put the sending unit for the second guage. I thought about the rear port on the drivers side of the intake that has the square headed plug in it. Would this work?

I also have a Ford Motorsport chrome thermostat housing that has a screw plug on the top behind the hose outlet. Would this be a good place to put it?

Where does everyone hook theirs up to when using two guages?
Thanks
Tim

Sure, it seems like that square plug place would work just fine.

Yes, that spot will work. I was working on a 5.0 in a Towncar, and that is where one of the heater hose outlets were. The fox 5.0 must have a plug there. :grinno:

The thermostat housing is a bad place - it'll only show you the temp once the thermostat opens, and of course if the t-stat fails it won't show you anything at all. That port is good only for a thermal switch for an electric fan, which is probably what it was put there for.
