Hey Folks,
It's time for some new wheels. But I am pulling my hair out trying to decide what wheels I like/look good. Since the car already has a 5-lug conversion, I am thinking about the following:
- 96 to 98 GT OEM snowflakes (5 spoke "split")
- 98 OEM Cobras or FRPP Cobra R's
- OEM Bullitts
I am also not sure what wheel color/finish I prefer (satin/silver, chrome, powdercoated grey/black, etc). Pic of the car is below, Current plans are to strip her bare and repaint the original Scarlot Red (paint code 2D) or go with a clearcoated medium-dark red.
Anyways, post up your pics before I go bald!! :pbb: Thanks!

I would stay away from the basic Mustang look. Mustangs don't even look good with them lol
I've had a few different ones on my car:
These are the factory "speical" Fila wheels. 14" White 8 holes

And then my 15" American Racing AR-790's
(http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/6/web/2322000-2322999/2322669_58_full.jpg)
And now my 15" 10 holes

1998(?) mustang gt 17s.
shiznit, just realised that he wanted 5 lug not 4.
As far as 5 lug wheels go...in the last few years I've found myself partial to '99 Cobra wheels and '03-04 Cobra wheels, I guess because they're a fairly simple design, cheap, and not everyone runs them (unlike cobra R's). Would like to run one of those two someday if I ever get my car converted to 5-lug.
I don't think there is anything special about 8 holes.
I've got a set off of an '88 Sport.
Here's part of my personal stash of pics.

WOW!!! Thanks for all of the pics. It was exactly what I needed to help me visualize the wheels.
So, I am down to two: the satin Cobra R's and the snowflakes. It'll probably come down to price, but I think I like the snowflakes better. This TC looks KILLER:
I am thinking about contacting a couple of engraving or custom wheel shops about replacing the pony in the center cap with a TBird emblem. We'll see how it goes and/or how much it costs.
Thanks again, guys, for all of the pics! Your cars look AWESOME! :)
i could beat off to this pic...:idhitit:
Yeah but how much are those ones vs. the 5 lug ones?
As far as four lug wheels go, I've noticed how cheap you can get '93 Cobra wheels for with a polished lip and center cap and black "spokes." Those would look pretty sweet.
I'm also partial to gunmetal/anthracite cobra r's also but I dunno why :dunno: These things are shagy-http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17-Gunmetal-Mustang-Cobra-R-Wheels-rims-machined-lip_W0QQitemZ290067536490QQihZ019QQcategoryZ43957QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
When i decide to make the move to a 5 lug set-up ill be getting a set of these...
If i go 5 lug (and that's if) i really like these, especially being deep dish.
Their pretty cheap too.
Can anybody photoshop these onto a my TC???
hmm 5 lug wheel pics... lol im a wheel w:grinno:

this thread makes me want a tc!! im partial to the older cobra's and the mustang tri bars
I have the 17x9 Cobra R wheels.I like them. They have that elegant look (Yes,I said "elegant",and no,I'm not gay...........not that there's anything wrong with that).
I'm thinking of the same wheel setup as McQueen's 68 (15x6) on my 87 cougar, 60's style high profile tires and all. I'll definitely lower it regardless of wheel type. Highland green paint a possibility since I'll never have enough cash for a 68 gt sportsroof. Anybody have this setup?
thanks
crash
Those wheels look real good on your car-are those lsc front rotors? and is that why you dont have a center cap on your wheels?

You can never go wrong with Bullitts
This is my 88TC with 17x9 Cobra R's. I do not have any pictures anymore, they all got deleted somehow. But this is the best I have.. If i were to spend money on wheels, I would do 5 lug with FR500's in gunmetal. ...HTH, and I will try and get some other pictures.
ah i want it!!!!! wanna trade!
turbo83coupe,Those are the wheels I run on mine.I think they have the "right" look.
heres mine :D
be forewarned...you asked for wheel pics, lol. They came with the car.
They'd look better on mine:hick:
Since everyone's posting wheels:
Not sure of the brand of wheels, but they're the same kinda thing you'd find on an ASC McLaren car. Wrapped with 275.50.15's Drag radials. The sidewall baloons quite a bit.
These were the best rims i could find for my Cougar.
those are sweet but are they for a fwd if so do they work good

Victor, the rims you had on the burgundy car (Supercat) when you first got it...what are those? Still have them? I haven't seen those for awhile now...
American Racing Outlaws. I have a freind that has them on his fairmont
Here!! (http://"http://www.americanracing.com/wheels/details.asp?wheelid=7&name=Outlaw%20I&style=61&desc=1-piece%20alloy,%20clear%20coated§ion=S")
My original rims are gone, they were in very rough shape and one was giving me safety issues. They saw allot of miles (160,000+). I still like that style quite allot. The best thing about the style is that you don't have to worry about the brake dust, as much anyway, which helps keep them a whole lot cleaner. Don't you just love cleaning rims :hick:
Thanks fila for the quick link
ATSmusic, those look to be some old pics. do you still have that car? and does it still look straight from the 80's?
i love it! those centerlines are PERFECT for that car. they look like wider, deeper 8holes(which are one of my favorite stock wheels).
welcome, and beautiful car!
the Outlaws on my car may be for sale if ya wanna go back to 4 lug, lol.
Thanks for the nice comment Gumby,
Yes those are old pic's and yes I do still have that car. Quite a history on the car. I bought it new in 86 with a 5.0 in it and did alot of alterations in the following 7 years. I added BBK equal length headers, mustang fuel rail and injectors,65MM throttle body just to pep it up. In 87-88 I went through the audio phase and had $7,000 worth of Alpine, JL and, Rockford equipment installed into it, won several crank it up shows and got over that in a few years so decided to begin with other idea's.
The car was so low to the ground that it would eat reflectors off the highway when changing lanes and this was done by building strut lowering mounts which raised the mounting point by 3" and converting it to Camaro front strut's which lowered the hub mount by 2" so I still had almost full travel in the suspension. I used some Oldsmobile shocks on the rear which were shorter than the Ford's.
Around 1990 I swapped out the rear end to a TC disk brake setup with 3.73 gears, changed the original 20:1 rack and pinion to a TC 15:1 so the thing would turn on a dime and stop on a penny.
Interior was changed to a TC set of leather buckets had tweed inserts installed, full console and the hardest part was swapping the digital dash module to a TC module. Took me a week or so with those wiring diagrams, digital had 2 large connectors 17/18 wires and the TC has 1 with 18 wires. Problem was the dash's were from 2 diff years and Ford changed the wire colors so I had to chase down what each wire did convert it to the dash I was using and eliminate wires. No idea how I pulled it off but every light bell and whistle worked, I did however burn up 1 dash as I had 1 issue, when I hit the dimmer switch 2 lights came on and the other 2 went off and this stumped me for days until I figured out that someone at the body shop flipped 1 headlight wire when they replaced a bulb. I flipped that 2 wire connector over and BAM light problem fixed.
In 91 someone came into my yard one night and went around my car with a screwdriver and wrote 'honky' on the hood so I had the car stripped door handles removed, all the holes filled, relocated the gas tank filler and had the nose piece molded in had it primered all over and drove it that way until I decided to swap the motor.
In 92 I yanked the engine, gutted the interior, tubbed the rear for a 77 Lincoln Versaille disk brake 9" which was the perfect size for the then new 12X15 Weld VR11's using 345-35-15 tires which tucked neatly under it, pulled a complete air bag front sub-frame from a MarkVII which directly bolted right up to my original framework, under the engine I cut a hole into the frame and installed a 2"X8" rubber boat trailer wheel into it on a bearinged shaft. This rolls across the road when I se something rather than eating away at my frame. Intentions are to use the rear bags as well but now days a 1000 companys make air suspensions when NONE were made in 92 when I began this bag idea. My intentions were to put a 514" big block into it and purchased everything I needed for the engine at that time except the shorty headers(no longer available), rod's and pistons all of which sits dusty(not rusty) on my shelves right now.
THEN in 93 I went through a messy divorce, re-married the wrong woman and went through absolute hell on earth for 7 years while my project sat on jack stands. I lost interest in it over the last 7 years and just recently decided it was time to get off my arse and build that dream car I always envisioned. Bought my son a 87 Turbo Coupe 3 years ago with 78,000 on it parked in the yard ever since and now that he's about to get his licence and upon pulling out the car to get it ready for him I decided it's too nice of a car to give to that 16 year old so kept it for myself which has brought me to these forums hunting horsepower tips and the decision to get the old Blackbird back on the road with a now decided 557" stroker in it. I've got several engines to choose from sitting in the shop so I'm still kinda debating the one to build, 351 2BL Cleveland, a 69 4BL 429, a 70 4BL 460.
As time goes along I'll be updating my progress here as well as getting tip's and idea's from you guy's. I barely scratched the surface of all thats been done to that car but said enough. :-)
Sorry for being so long winded on my first post but just wanted to tell the tale. This is an Awesome Forum you have here and I hope to become a regular as everyone seems to know what their talking about.
Mike E.
very cool! thanks for the history about your car. i like to see the cars like yours that were modded in the 80's early 90's and then stored. way better than retro themed cars built now.
we have another car with similar history on here. pics of it also show that its mods were done in the 80's rather than now. Red Spar is his name on here.
glad you found us and good luck gettin your car back on the road!
Heres the wheels i got with the car then i traded off these ugly rims i had on mine and tires and $50 and got some TC Wheels+ TC steering wheel+ TC fog lights+ and a extra center console looks a lot better for now i may switch to some 4 LUG chrome GT500's or some PONY rims chrome or white later on.
Ok I've withheld this long enough. That is the UGLIEST ****ing car I have ever seen.
Mine lasted a year. I can understand.......COMPLETELY.:hick:
i don't think it would look as bad if it didn't have the hood stripes painted backwards or some stars or something :toilet:
Is it just me or do I see a r/w/b paintjob on this? White body ( Sorta), Red stripes ( sorta) and a metallic blue bottom maybe? Kudos for doing something different it just doesn't do it for me bro. It does look better with snowflakes
I got bored Saturday night and decided to see what I could do with those stock rims on my TC. All I had was 500 grit so I will have to go further with them once more. Their Ok for what they are.
How Red Can It Get? :-)
Agreed.
Reminds me of Redneck car of the week or something. But each to his own.
Could have painted the rims red:hick: I'm not crazy about red, but your car does look nice.
I do have other Fox cats you know. :D , and I love having extra rims. I've got a couple extra sets as it is.
ATS, car looks great.
Here's my sister's car. :)
That is still by far the greatest car porn ever!!!
heres what mine look like.
you didnt have to say anything we all know already, being different is one thing but that its amazing to me how you could bring yourself to do that to one of ours car, or ANY car period.
Well the jury's in and my son lost. I bought this lil hunker a few months ago to build for his first car, bought a body kit and some nice, NICE 18X8 TSW Mondello wheels w/225-40-18's for it and then he gets a attitude and dont feel like working on his car because it's HOT outside so he run's home to mommy.
Well after watching those wheels getting dirty everytime it rained, I decided last night to rob the old rotors off my 86 on stands and slip them puppies on my 87 TC. I knew they would fit and I just had to try it to find out. Now today I slide out the rear's and start hunting axles with no luck and my car now sit's on the lift while I hunt parts. ,,
Before you flame me on the rusty rotors, I had no paint last night and painted them today so their nice and clean now. :-)
PS: Oh yeah We Known As Sanford & Son Round Here LOL
Intresting looking wheel on a TC. May I ask what the blue car is though?
1st generation Eclipse/Talon/Laser.
Ford Probe.
Bingo. Looks like a Talon.
I would have said Laser actually, but I suppose the trim is different.
It a talon, buddy had one all done up. Nice looking wheel. Does it fit all right on the TC?

Anyone have some new FORD GT wheels on their T-Bird or Cougar or Mark?
Hey Guys,
Off topic here but I posted some wheel pic's of my Birds here awhile back and mentioned that I was planning on doing some upgrades and heres some of them. Not quite finished as I'm awaiting my chromed turbo to arrive so as to complete the red 87. Look Ma No Wires, Hmm whats that Lil Shiny Tank Do ??
The Black bird I have rear-halved with 33x19.50x15's in it and purchased a 557CI Ford engine for it and hope to complete it in a few months. Will add pic's soon but for now heres a teaser.
Music
Ditch that fram filter and make a new post about that nice looking 2.3T in the appropriate area. ;)
seems like everyone pretty much likes the 5 spoke look.
5 spokes are classy, thats all. also they're known for performance. i on the other hand, and some might ask why, like steelies. I made a post about steelies just today or yesterday. anyway, other than steelies i like these: http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=10182&stc=1&d=1174256146
does anyone know what kind they are? I cant understand whats on the center cap... eneki? i dont think so... anyway, prolly an import wheel that wont fit possibly?

man I feel like a idit just got stock Turbo Coupe wheels what ever there called I forgot I feel like a discrase to yall but I just bought the car so I guess can yall forgive me.
ETH947 were did u get the Cobra R's W/ the red R in the center and what do I need to swope the 4 lug to 5 lug conversion in my Turbo Coupe I heard I need 94/95 Hubs and Brakes but is there anything else I need besides rims.
2 GT500 shot and 1 shot of 2000 and 2001 and 2002 Mustang GT rims.
Now tell me you can do any better for the Price Gt500s are like $135 a wheel and the GT wheels go for about $200 a set on ebay.
They still sell these in 5-lug (4-lug in no longer available) American Racing Rebel:
Those wheels look good on a red cougar but the main reason i like your car is it runs 11s. They look good and i know there the only wheel you would ever want for that cougar because "you love those rebel wheels".
can anyone tell me what I need to convert my 4 lug to a 5 lug.
About $415 unless you live in Texas then you gotta pay tax this should be almost everything you need i think.
http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/iwwida.pvx?;item?item_no=LRS-4234B-K%20%20%20%201&comp=LRS
Dont think the axles are long enough in the mustang kits.
Use the search and you will find alot of answers to most of your questions.
Depends on the year of the car ;)
....for an 88 nope not long enough.
carpimp1987 my car has 4 wheel disc brakes for one and the Mustang axles are smaller than the Thunderbird axles.
Here was the Cougar 6 years ago with the stock 10 holes.
My favorite thing so far GT500s can't do much better for the price like $550 or so a set.
anybody have 10th aniv. cobra wheels?
Would love to. You buying?
have 4 lug now!!!!

Very nice fellas. Excellent vinnie! Here are a couple shots of my mine. I hope you can see it well because I had to shrink the photo to meet the upload criteria. How do you guys get your large photos in here?
Thanks.
Get a photobucket account. Its free and it own sizes them. Just post the IMG code from under the pic and there you go.
Oh Yeah! This is much better. Thank you very much DVP.
I know, I know...That's what she said... (LOL)
What kind and what size are those wheels? They really look sharp. The SVT centre caps are also a nice touch.
Thanks
+1 They look great, that's the first time I've seen those wheels.
Here's a couple pics of the split spokes I put on last week.

They're old school Ultra wheels wrapped in Falken ZE512 225/55/16.
'07 GT Wheels. SN95 front spidles and LSC rear.
Got any more pics? I havent been a fan of the new style of those. They seem to look better on your car though. The spokes always seem to look too wide to me.
I really like them on your car. They flow nicely with the color also.
Nice car. I like the color. Welcome to the forums.
Tried to reply but I think I screwed it up.
Thanks, I will try to put some more pics up in the next couple of days. This picture was from last summer and when I look at this picture again I can see that this was actually before the spindle and differential conversion because I don't see the rear disk brake calipers. I think the car looks better now. I wasn't a big fan of this type wheel either but a deal came my way and I tried them and everything just seemed to work out. I was more interested in the heavy offset that these wheels came with and how that would favor what I wanted to do with the spindle a differential conversion while going with wider tires and lowering the car. I put some newer pics up
That is a shagY looking car.
I have also wondered about running the 05+ offset and if it would cause issues. Looks like it worked out for you. I plan to also go Mark VII rear. Front swap is still in the air. What comes along is what will probably go on.
Cool, I can finally post a pic in here.

Nice pic Jerry !! ;)
these are knock off Mustang wheels
Theres a post toward the first few pages of a black tbird with chrome 2003 cobras and a red cougar with machined 2003's.
Anyone on here have a black bird with machined 03 cobras?
I like the chrome since i have all the chrome LX strips. But then again, the factory 8 holes are machined...
see my dilemma?
My car somehow ended up with 8 hole "Phonedial" wheels. I hate these wheels because they are so darn ugly....
O.K.,here are the Sport's wheels (she doesn't like me to call them "mine")......

What about a set of 1993 Cobra replica rims on the tbirds?
Finally.. i know there just AA rims, but i like the offset, and i think they look cool....

Your wheels are 2DIE4! Love them!
Can anyone tell me what these are and if they are stock? LOL. I seriously dont have a clue cuz none of you have them. :rollin:
Not a stock wheel for sure, not on any Ford model. Has to be aftermarket but that is a nice wheel.
I think I've seen those on the old Saleen Stangs.
Hmmm research time! Lol honestly I like the old five points like yours but these will do ;)
Research complete. LOL 80's style mustang saleen option were riken RTW. Came on gold and chrome. LOL old school but definately keepers. Just wish I weren't missing three of the four middle plastic hubs. :(
This may help ya just a little ;)
http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=17361&highlight=cougars2go
Actually, comparing the pics...I'd say yours ARE an aftermarket wheel...the differences are there, but they're very subtle.
Are there any markings, tags, or stickers ANYWHERE on any of your wheels?
I just installed 17x8 front and 17x9 rear deep dish with machined lip Cobra R's with new 295/45/17 M/T Drag Radials.
I sold the polished ones I had on here for a different look... plus I needed more rear tire for the added HP...
I like that deep dish look....especially when you can retain it on the front wheels as well. Nice looking wheels.
Thanks. I'm loving them right now, the only thing left to do is roll the rear inner wheel lip under so that I don't chew up the sidewalls of the tires.......
i bought 2 from a wrecking yard, only had enough for 2, the car had the whole set but the other 2 were gone when i got the money for them. i've been unable to find any more. any body know anything about them? they are a 2 piece rim. they came off a turbo coupe 87-88? i think ,,been 2 years.
The mesh wheels u guys speak of are old Enkie's and American racing. I own a 15" set of Enkie's in black and my 16" are's are being powder coated medium metallic red like my bird.

Nice Cougar and those wheels look great on it!
1WLD BRD...that is a sweet looking Cougar. I really think it has the perfect '80s vibe to it with those wheels and the pinstripe.
I can't believe I've never posted my wheels in here. They are pretty common basic old 17x9 Cobra R replicas with 245/45/17 Falken's. I bought them because they were pretty cheap and looked 1/2 way decent. I plan to hopefully change wheels by springtime...may go 5 lug and try some chrome Bullitts with 275's on the rear or maybe some 15's for an old school look.

heres some pics of my cobra Rs bent one last month need to buy a new one soon.
please someone find me a 17x9 chrome cobra R 5 lug send pm if you got a extra one laying around.
I want to do the same thing and basically copy 1wldbird's Cougar except in a Medium Wengewood Blue as a second car someday. Photoshop anyone?
I'm not feeling the trunk stripes, but the wheels look awesome. Your car really has a nice rake to it too. It looks sharp. Nice job!
Okay I wrecked my old car only reason the stripes are still there going for a 2 tone bullit black top and green bottom soon.
got 1 chrome cobra R and 2 polished cobra rs and last 1 2000-2002 gt wheel since my other rim got bent when i had a blow out.,
need 1 chrome one drivers side chrome and passanger side polished no one will know.
Dude I think your car looks good white...
I just bought a very clean 87 LX V6 w/factory 10 hole wheels, what would be a good tire combo to help fill the wheel wells better untill I get my 5lug setup together???
Leave it alone if you're going 5 lug.Why invest in replacements if you're just going to have to do it again with the 5 lug setup.Save the money and use it towards your swap.10 holes look good.
American Racing Outlaw II's on my 88.

Great looking Bird. Those wheels actually look good on that gray car.My Sport had those on it when I bought it from the salvage yard. They were in great shape, just really discolored.
Runninwild what are those tires size? are they 225 70 series? thanx
nice looking car!! Makes me want to ditch my 17's for some 15's. We would be twins then.
It actually just got repainted again... Some asshole backed into it, making it the fifth time it has been rear ended and suffering only minmal damage. The rear end on that car has totaled a Daewoo Leganza while only needed to be repainted on it's fourth rear end collision. :)
Also, the clear coat was slightly peeling, so MAACO redid the whole thing and put a silver stripe on it, kind of like 50tbrd88's. My stripe is a little darker than yours, so we are pretty close lol.
Thanks for the compliments.
I like the way they inch out of the wheel well. :burnout:

Here are the fabulous wheels on my two Tbirds... Ugly polycast 14" road wheels in my former 1985 for the win! :hick::rollin:
I really wish I could find the metric tires at a reasonable price because I like the original TRX wheels so much.
I am seriously rethinking the whole 1980-82 wheelcover thing. I really want at least good set of Mustang GT turbines or better yet some 4-lug Cobra wheels like Vinnie's...

Your entire Bird is nice!
my vote is for the 94-95 cobra's like chuck has....they are simple
and no mustang logo, but i would paint car color in the windows
leaving the satin/clearcoat highlights for contrast...little
maintenance abd still dressy...i have 4 people who repair, paint and
polish if you want some tips
Those black/machined wheels are "riken" mesh built by the
same company that built enkei - when michelin bought riken
some years ago they elected not to have wheels built any
more so they were discontinued....back in those days i was
the west coast distributor - tire baron
I am amazed at the amount of wheels guys spend their hard earned
money for (some ugly some cool but its a matter of taste)that would
let some one put wheel weights on the outside of their wheels because some tire flunkie says thats the only way they can get a good balance. there are some very cool rides in this group that are
true works of art but then it stops when it comes to the wheels.
Tip: when painting wheels, rattle can or otherwise, do not paint
the lug seats. when the paint shrinks it will alter the torque of the
lugs. if you want to strip/clean before painting, take them to your local machine shop and have them hot tanked/
Actually, in my case I requested they balance the wheels utilizing weights on the outside if needed. Weights on both sides does give a better dynamic balance, and thus less vibration at higher speeds.
Shiny Side Up!
Bill
actually you can place the outer dynamic weights behind the spokes,
the machine will then tell you it is a little off, add or subtract weight
until the machine zero's out. many wheels have a rolled outer edge so as not to place weights there..many of the new balancers will actually calculate and hide the weights for you..for the ones that say you can't get a "good" balance, come to oregon and we will show you.
True, you can place them behind the spokes if there is room. Doing so does require stick-on weights however, and my experiance with those on a daily driven vehicle has not been good. Nonetheless, I would still question how good a balance you could get with these particular wheels as the weights would end up on or inside of the wheel's center in order to clear the bolt of its two piece design.
On other wheels however, placing the outer weights inside of the spokes can work rather well. This is especially true when the vehicle will not see regular snow, sleet, and rain to cause the stick-on weights to fall off.
Shiny Side Up!
Bill
porsche, mercedes benz use adhesive weights from the factory, in our part of the world
all road race cars are mandated to use adhesive weights..put a clip on weight on a magnesium wheel and see what the zinc does..if your experience with stick on weights
has not been good, i suggest you find a good tire man, the balance is as good as the
tech. tire baron (40 years)
Race cars are mandated to use adhesive weights not because the adhesive is better, but instead because the adhesive weights sit on the part of the rim that is parallel to the rim. As you know, Newton's First Law of Motion says an object (the weight) will stay in motion moves in a straight line with constant speed unless acted upon by an outside force. In the case of a normal weight, this outside force is the clip, in the case of a stick-on weight, this force is the rim itself.
In the real world rims corrode however and stick-on weights don't work that well when there is corrosion present. Mercedes may use the adhesive weights, and maybe they work fine on a Mercedes powder coated rim. Then again, maybe they flake off as badly as the dye on the dash of my wife's SLK, or fall off as often as the door panels did until I glued the clips back on with the adhesive you normally use to glue on quarter panels.
How well a clip-on weight works on a magnesium wheel is of no consequence to me, I own no vehicle that utilizes them.
As for how accurately you can balance a wheel utilizing a weight set inside the centerline of the rim, I would like to see real literature from a balancer manufacturer that recommends this. The closer together you make the weights, the less accurately you can achieve a dynamic balance. This is not a matter of my opinion, but rather, as I understand it, a matter of physics. If you have a weight imbalance that is causing an inertial event that is at a diagonal to the vertical of the rim, you must have weights as far to the outside of the rim as possible to counteract it.
In any case, I really do appreciate your input. If and when I have these wheels blasted and powder coated, I may very well go with your recommendation and use adhesive weights.
Shiny Side Up!
Bill
I use adhesive weights.
To keep them on, I cover them with a piece of foil tape, like what you find at the hardware store for ductwork. Never lost a weight and the tape doesn't affect the balance.

...i think it looks mean and will look better when i slap some 4cyl springs in it (the 2nd pic had a empty engine bay)
Cool... I'll most likely start using them once I have the wheels redone. Until then, I just don't feel like they are worth the effort of cleaning the inside of the 24 year old rims.
All of this will need to wait until after we move to Tennessee though.

Do you have the other two wheels?Gotta have a 4 of a kind ya' know.
Agreed. They look good though
yea ive got the other two, just not on yet cuz they still need tires, thanx for the compliment tho
03 Cobra replicas, should have kept them...

Yup they look good on that beauty!
Anyone ever put a set of '93 Cobra replicas on a 'Bird?

I woudl certainly like to see how they look! I also like the way the 94 Cobra wheels look on our cars. They carry over the TRX wheel themed smooth center caps with the lug nut holes. I just remembered I built a model of a 1966 Tbird and used a set of 93 Cobra wheels on it and it looks great! I have a couple of other wheel swaps I did not model cars. I need to take pictures!
Ah, I found the member picture who has the 94 Cobra wheels installed... Sweet!

Do you have center caps?I wonder if stock 10 hole/TC wheel caps would work.Nice looking wheels....different.The front of my Sport sat tall like that once upon a time.I used 1999 Mustang springs all around to lower it (alignment afterward).Worked wonders for looks and handling.Keep it up,one step at a time.My first '88 was red.I like it.
thanx, and i dont have the caps, im trying to find something nice, ill try the 10 hole caps, and yea its sitting like a monster truck lol, that will be fixed rite after the floor shifter goes in this week, what 99 stang springs were they, and are there differences between v6 v8 conv or hardtop springs
I was taught that the V-6 and V-8 springs are the same.I got mine from a V-6 car and they have been great.....they were also free, and that didn't hurt.LOL.
that sounds nice haha, i mite have to see if my buddy has plans for his 00 stang springs, we are supposed to lower it this week, so ima try to c00ch his stockers haha
There you go.Mine dropped right in,and,as I stated,I had an alignment done as well (I swapped the rack,LCA's and everything at once).
Vinnie , all 4 springs worked with no problems ?
A friend of my brother has a set from a 96 gt sitting in his garage
I can have for a song
my 88w/ the stock 10 holes and cougar centers
strange though, to me, that they originally came with a set of ford caps
One day, after I am filthy rich, i will have those 03/04 4lug cobras though. waaaaaay too much else to fix until then though!
Ford,Cougar, either way, they look good.I always liked the 10 holes and turbine wheels.
Now with Turbines
Yes,they all fit with zero issues.I was also replacing my steering rack, pump, strut bushings, and lower front control arms and I had an alignment. You really need to do that when you lower a car.
I've had the 8 hole wheels,10 holes, turbines, snow flakes, silver Cobra R's,chrome Cobra R's,and now the 10th Anniversary wheels.I'm stopping the wheel swap merry go round.
As far as stock wheels go my favorites are the turbines...if i ever did a 5lug conv i would probably snag a set off a lincoln towncar and put cougar center caps in em :D
GT500s on my 1988 Cougar XR7
And Cobra Rs on my 1998 T-Bird
I so love the Turbines on a Tbird! Why they were never offered as OE on the Bird is beyond me... Someone sell me some Turbines!!!!!
I am so torn between wheels like Vinnie's and a good set of Turbines!
I always wondered how the GT500 wheels would look on a Fox Cat/Bird. I have seen zillions of pictures on pre-94 Mustangs but I never captured any inspiration seeing them on those cars.
I also test fitted the wheels on my T-bird and they look good on it to theres a red one on cardomain with the GT500s.
Also going to get a set of Bronze SVE wheels "03 cobra wheels" for the T-bird later this year. using the cobra Rs for spares for both cars. since i bent 1 of them.
Turbines=brake dust had them on my 1st T-bird my dad sold me. only fun thing to do is paint the center caps.
Stock 14" polycasts (my favorite...just wish they were bigger)

And my other set of wheels, my 10 holes:
I may be off base, but I actually like the 10 holes better. Either way, that is a sharp bird!!
Thanks man! Those 10 holes look good when they are very polished up like that but its hard to keep them looking that nice. I HATE those tires on that set too, makes the car scary in rain. The Saleen reps are wider and feel better on the road and look better in person when they aren't disappearing into darkness in my photo. :D I am hanging on to the 10 holes though. ;)
I got tired of cleaning my snowflakes and got a pair of Kleen Wheels to put inside them. They definitely keep them clean, though when I have the windows down I can hear them rub the inside of the rims a little.
Thanks! She'll look a TAD bit different tomorrow. I'll take a pic then.
I want to see what a set of wheel replica's 93 Cobra wheels would look like on my car in chrome.

Some ponys on my cat
What is the size difference between the pony caps and the 10 holes?
Hey fellas with the Mustang Pony wheels! I just wanted to point out that you guys can get plain center caps without the Mustang emblems on them. American Muscle sells them for only $14.99 each.
I thought it might be a good idea for some of you because it would be simple to add emblems of your choice or leave them plain. I do know there are vinyl decals of cat and bird emblems available that would finish the plain caps nicely.
These caps are also available in chrome.

Different wheels, different caps. Pony wheel caps are characterized by a slot so that you can remove them.
Love your Bird man and the wheels are killer! Your certainly gives me inspiration for the day I will have new paint!
Those wheels look great on your kitty! I have no idea what wheels I will end up with. There are so many options!
A bird in Russia? Nice!
Yeah that is cool but really odd they do not allow for a U.S. sized plate.

Jerry,they fit the car perfectly.I sometimes miss my turbines......and 10 holes.....and snow flakes......and silver Cobra R's.....and chrome Cobra R's...........
mmm...love me some turbines & white letters!
The rear tires will be a bit bigger when they come in. Those are the 2 front tires on the same side right now. Always wanted white letters since I was 18.... Better late then never. ;)
The old standard of days gone by. :headbang:
Nice Kitty! BTW u got those taillamps nice, bright and ruby! Did you take out the inner reflector lens to get this effect?
Vinnie you know you have the perfect wheels! U are at the point they are so perfect for your car that there is no improvement!
Improvement to the Sport is coming soon....(Just no more wheels.LOL)....a/c is finally happening, sound deadener, tinted windows (I think the dark windows will really set off the color),and recovering the seats soon. After that,I can relax and take a break. At the end of next year,I'm hoping for a repaint of the same color due to a few small things on the Sport I'm not happy with, and a few mods I'm hoping to make,.
Thanks Angelo. As for the taillights, they're the untouched originals except for a coat of wax.
I must say, there is some prety cool birds and cats in the pics in this thread .not naming any names theres some hidious ones too

Mustang Bullitts :)
Looks good! I've always liked these wheels.
Great looking Cougar.
Here's a pic with the larger rear tires....and some weight finally in the front. I measured the height today... the front is 2 1/2" higher then the back with larger tires... The rear tires are 1" taller then the fronts

Schwing!! Are those S197 (2005+) offset or 94-04?
Looks freaking amazing!!
They are the 94-04 offset, was thinking about trying to mod of find some other center caps for them, but they still look great
Can't go wrong with these wheels, but im thinking about goin with weld draglites soon.

I had a real set of 93 cobras on my old bird(86) but dont have any pics, that was in 94
Those are my old wheels; do you still have those?
14 inch unique chrome rims 4 bolt. there on my 1988 ford thunderbird sport 5.0
Thanks, this is a reply to an email i got about my rims. They are 14 inch unqiue chrome rims. They were the only rim that i could find that would fit my car. They are 4 bolt rims and the only thing is they stick out a half inch at the front because there is no off set. I think my tire size is 225r14 but i'm not exactly sure because it is stored right now for the winter and i am currently in school. i would suggest sticking with the original size tire because if i hit a big bump the tire rubs at the front on something so when its time to get new tires i'm going to switch back to the original size tires. also i'm not exactly sure the width of therims maybe 7 inch but thats a guess.
15" American Racing
Suits the car perfect in my opinion

Just a fyi, any 4 lug Mustang wheel will fit your Tbird. Some tire stores will say they don't because Tbirds are different.
these are centerline warriors, with old little tires

I think most of you will disagree with the stretched tire tuck look, here's mine though

It doesn't look bad. The tires just appear to be a tad too narrow for the wheels. Was this done for the look, to allow for clearance or due to financial constraints? How is the fender lip to wheel/tire clearance? What is the size, width, offset and backspacing?
I was going for a stretched/hellaflush look. The wheels are 18x9's all around, +18mm offset. I think the tires are 225/45/18. I got all 4 as a package deal so I used them on the rears, with a 1.5" spacer to fill that large empty fender.. I will at some point in the future do it properly and have a correct wheel offset with a bigger rear tire. I always felt 17's were a tad too small for a car this big.. The clearance on the rears is within millimeters. I tried looking around to have my wheel spacers shimmed narrower by a quarter of an inch but no one would do them.

really like that... the height looks brilliant.
Those look pretty good and I think 245mm is about as wide as you can go on the front end, without interference issues. The rears could be a bit wider, up to about a 295, if memory serves, but the design of the wheels probably wouldn't look as good if the rears had more of a lip. I think you hit s sweet spot and it looks great.
Thanks, I've thought about going to a little wider rear tire but I like the idea of being able to rotate them. Tires are too expensive these days, I want to be able to make them last!
Pick up some wheels today for 150.00, need center caps and tires soon, but since I have not motor or tranny yet, they will do.
little mixed up but i have 3 of the rear rim and 4 of the front rim will be putting the other two on the back after winter is over not bad for 80 bucks lol
i cant beleive i havent posted in this!

Just got a set of Fila rims 14" to replace the other 14" rims with center cap. Got a great price on the Fila rims and they were polished and look like chrome. See the original rims in my album.
Here's a pic of current rims.

Bordeaux nice color to my ls cougar... now t birds has extraordinary wheels are strong BBS Style.
Somebody know the wheel cover Mercury Sable is STEEL 14'... are greats.
Great to look at all of the great wheel selections. I personally am partial to the Cobra R's. Am looking to get a set to replace the factory's. I am staying 4 lug for the time being. Question for the group please, 14 is stock size. Replacement size being 16 or 17? Any suggestions. Will 17 fill up the wheel well too much. My car is flat stock right now. Suggestions are appreciated on this from those that are more knowledgeable.
Forgot to mention that I have a white 86 bird with the stock steel wheels currently.
stock ride hight you will still have a lot of room .......... like fox mustangs these cars sit like a f150 lol
My son's 87 XR7. The car is pretty clean. I put in a 3.55 mustang rear. Dual exhaust going on sometime soon. Maybe fresh paint next spring. Thinking of going all black. 15x7 Cragar Super Spoke's - 5 lug.

This is the mudnighter. Lol
Here is mine with Rodlites.

Those Rod Lites look good on your Black TC !
I never warmed up much to Rod Lites until I got my '86 TC Stocker with those type wheels on it.

Are the back TRX's widened or do they just look that way? Definitely looks great on the bird.
Thanks.
The wheels are Center Lines (15 x 7 front and 16 x 8 rears)
The Mustang TRX centers are bolted on and are removable. I had them machined down to fit inside the Center Line wheels.
That looks really cool.
I was wondering if you have a thread on how those wheels were built like that?
I am curious on how the trx center sections bolt up.
I want to keep my original wheels for my car for street use but have the rears widened and the fronts narrowed but I am also doing a five lug conversion.
I am wanting to have a stock look wheel for the street but fit big drag
radials for the rear and skinny's up front but still look like stock Thunderbird wheels to the average person.
I am going to be running race wheels for just that but I still would like to have a sleeper look on the street.
It would be cool to see how those wheels of yours work if you can show that it would be really cool
Thanks
Mark.
Mark:
The centers are held on by the long wheel studs.
I put on the Center Line wheels and torque down the lug nuts as normal.
I then install the machined TRX centers and install another 4 lug nuts and tighten down. That's it.
These pics are the T-Bird/Cougar ones I did in 2007, but the idea works the same on the Mustang TRX's.
Hope this helps.

93 Saleen Speedline 4-lug
The real deal nice
Those are worth money
Needs a drop and that would look real good
With Weld wheels on stock height...meh

With Cobra R reps and cut springs
Lots of nice wheels posted. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think Ford got it right for the most part. The 10 hole, Snowflake (only on the 87 and 88) and the TRX wheels really "fit" the look of these cars. While never offered, the 5 spoke Cobra R's fit the look of the car really well too.
Ive got these wheels. Made by US wheel. Available on summit

Anybody have a picture of their car with 97 chrome cobras?
I might get my hands on some but I need to see if they'll look good hehe
Nevermind, found it on the first page
Here's mine but I've already shown 'em in another thread

Finally got the car out of the shop after nine years. Washed the car and the wheels but holy does the paint need some TLC...almost ashamed with all the micro scratches in it. Good thing we never buffed it when it was painted back in 1998 and the clear was laid down heavy so it can be sanded and buffed.

Darren
Looks great!!
9 years???? Now I don't feel too bad. Havnt had mine on the road in over 1 year....Your car looks sweet Bro !

here is a diamond in the rough, was giving to me

Not a T-Bird but these wheels would look great on one. They're off a late '90's Crown Vic.
The Crown Vic wheels would be too low on the offset to use on a 5-lug swapped Fox Bird, but the version that was used on the 90-92 Mark VII LSC would be just about right. And I agree, the classic mesh wheel would look great on our cars.
cheers
Ed

Nice looking cat.
Mostly stock Bird overall but I swapped to SN95 spindles and a 3:55 geared 8.8 T-Lok rear axle with rear disks to run the 2001 Cobra rims
Are those 94 to 04 10th anniversery wheels? on Slinky's Cougar?
This is my 87 Turbo Coupe.
That's pretty awesome! Did you use the 5% discount code on them?
Those refurbished snowflakes have me rethinking the strip and polish thoughts on my wheels. Looks good.
Yup, Transwheel did an awesome job refurbishing the wheels. Looks like they acid dipped them, painted the pockets gray, machined the face, then clear coated the entire wheel. The wheels spun up perfectly true on the tire balancer and only required a couple of ounces to balance with the BFG's.
