Title: Any one up for a confusing challange?
Post by: 84 Fila on September 06, 2006, 05:28:15 PM
Ok, I need to know if I can get all 6 speakers from my P.S. to work with a 85 ranger "deck" thats in my car now.  From what it looks like to me is that someone stold the radio somewaer in the cars life and an onwer rigged it to work like this. I will soon be putting a new cd player in it but would like to know if all my speakers work first. Right now only the back ones work. I need to know if I can rig it to get all 6 to play?
The wiring as I have found it is:
Radio plug, left side
1. o/b
2. y/b
3. lb/r

Car plug, same side
1. o/b
2. y/b
3. lb/r
4. lg/y

Radio plug, right side going across the top then down to the bottom 4

1. bk/w x2 ( jumps to pin 3 )( also to pin 5)
2. p/lg
3. bk/w
4. o/blue
5. bk/w
6. p/lb
7. bk/w
8. w/g

Car side of plug, same thing
1.g/o?
2. p/b
3. bk/w
4. w/g
5. p/b or p/lg ( hard to tell)
6. p/? ( again, hard to tell)
7. open
8. o/lb

I know I probaly dicked this up already by confusing everyone but I'm just curious about this. I'll get pictures as soon as I find my camara. Thanks.
Mikey

Ok, just to clear up a few questions before we get too deep into wiring diagrams...  1)Are you sure that the stereo isnt set with the fade all the way to the rear?  2)Are you sure that the front speakers are good?

Thats what I need to know. The speakers are ??? and I have the fade set to middle on the unit and still only the rears. I'll have pictures of how I found the car up in a few hours so you can see what I mean by " hack job" of putting the ranger deck in.

If you arent sure about the speakers, either remove them and hook them up in the rear or you can use a multimeter and make sure their resistance is ~8Ω.

one way to test those speakers would be to use a C size battery. just hook up the speaker leads to the batery and see if you can hear a small hum or pop sound when you hook it up. Somtimes it is hard to hear so also look to see if the speaker is moving.

All of the speakers seem to work. Now how to rig them all to work off of the ranger deck?
