General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / 1988 Cougar Can you remove the grill when the hood won't open?
I have an 85 baby ltd It is different.
The cable is not broken It just won't open. Thinking the latch is stuck.
I am going to drill a 4" hole in the header panel and see if I can get to the latch. Don't want to break the grill. It is $129.00 on Ebay.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / 1988 Cougar Can you remove the grill when the hood won't open?
The hood will not open. I have googled everything and tried everything. Can't get the hood open. There are some essential parts in the engine compartment that I need.
I am thinking if I remove the grill I might be able to get to the hood latch.
Does anybody know of a way to remove the grill when the hood is still locked down ?!
If I have to I will destroy the grill but would rather not. It is a red painted Xr7 grill and I would like to use it in my new grey cougar project.

Engine Tech / 1988 Ciygar 347 CID what size fuel pump ?
I am setting up a 347 Stroker motor in my 88 Cougar.
I actually had this motor running very strong in my Red Cougar.
Had to move it to Grey cougar because of many problems with the Red one unrelated to the engine.
So, today. We got the engine running [with carburetor spray]
Everything works great.
But the fuel pump in the grey is broken and even if it worked it would be sized for the stock 5.0 motor.
I remember that I put a higher GPH fuel pump in the Red when it was running. But can't remember what size it was.
I wasn't a whole lot bigger, just a little.
MY engine:
347 Stroker
93 Cobra OEM camshaft
93 Cobra OEM [the real deal] Manifold
24 lb injectors
Computer in the red has been modified for Mass Flow.
Throttle body is upsized a little bit. Sorry can't remember how big. My best memory is 65MM
As you can see I built the motor as a strong street motor Easy on idle and drive ability and no plans for drag strip racing but fun to drive.
When I had the ECU tuned on a dynamometer at a drag race shop it measured 350 HP at the wheels.
Two questions:
1. What is the stock GPH on the fuel pump?
2. What GPH fuel pump should I be using?

Electrical Tech / 88 cougar fuse panel keyless entry what side of the fuse is pwr what side circuit?
I found the wires just like you said. Purple/Yellow and two White/Purple connected together as one to the switch.
I will be popping that trunk open tomorrow and will post the results tomorrow evening.

Electrical Tech / 88 cougar fuse panel keyless entry what side of the fuse is pwr what side circuit?
100% on battery cable not touching ground.
One little thing, because it is night time and raining and I can't really go out in me back yard to look.
Do I understand that tomorrow when I look at the trunk release button that there will be two wires, one that is purple/yellow stripe and one that is solid purple?

Electrical Tech / 88 cougar fuse panel keyless entry what side of the fuse is pwr what side circuit?
1988 Cougar
Here is my problem.
1. This car is a donor car for fixing up a newer better 88 Cougar.
2. My next step is to install manual transmission pedals in the new car.
3. The manual transmission pedals are locked in the old cougar.
4. There is no battery in the old Cougar.
5. I have lost the keys to the old Cougar.
6. I have keyless entry on the old Cougar.
7. I don't want to tear up the trunk or the hood of the old Cougar
8. The doors are not locked on the old Cougar
9. I can't crawl through the back seat of the old cougar to the trunk because there is a huge speaker box on
the back of the seats in the trunk.
10. I have in the past just opened the hood hooked up a spare battery [with jumper cables] and used the keyless to
get in the trunk.
11 Big surprise today. The hood is stuck closed. I have searched the Google and this forum. Several tips found for opening the hood.
12. A friend and I have tried everything, can't get the hood open.
So here is my plan. I will run two 16 gauge wires from my spare battery to the one fuse and one circuit breaker [CB]that power the keyless entry. Then open the trunk.
I don't know which side of the fuse and which side of the circuit breaker are connected to the battery and which side is connected to the circuit.
Attached is the schematic of the fuse panel. The keyless fuse is fuse 5. The keyless CB is CB 12.
I have put a red dot on one side of Fuse 5 and CB 12. I have also put a blue dot on one side of Fuse 5 and CB 12.
Does anyone know which dot red or blue on Fuse 5 and CB 12 go to the circuit?
I understand the answer might be red for one and blue for the other.
I promise when I get the trunk open this time I will take the lock out and get a locksmith to make me a key.
Thanks in advance

Electrical Tech / 88 Cougar Electronic Dash / Oil Pan has low LEVEL sender / Where is the warning light
Do you know if the electronic cluster has any of the other warning functions that were previously available on the optional warning panel.
headlight bulbs out, brake light bulbs out, door ajar, and a few others?

Electrical Tech / 88 Cougar Electronic Dash / Oil Pan has low LEVEL sender / Where is the warning light
No problems so far but I am really puzzled about something.
The Donor car has an buttstuffog instrument cluster. The Target car has an electronic cluster.
While swapping engines I noticed that the Target car has a low oil LEVEL sender in the oil pan. Does anyone know where the warning light lights up [location on dash] if the low oil LEVEL sender throw a positive ["Oil Level is Low"] signal. This would be a ground signal. [The level sender floats and touches metal ground
when the oil gets too low.]
Photo would be great. Wiring diagram would help as well. [I have searched our forum and googled]
Thanks,
Roadbird
