Engine Tech / AnyOne Got a Sludge Hammer!!!!!
Sounds like a warped head.  Was the car ever overheated?  Do a pressure test on the cooling system.
Might just be best to buy a running engine from a yard.  Sounds like the engine is about past it.  Any warranty?

BTW, whats a sludge hammer?

Drivetrain Tech / 86 mustang GT 8.8 rearend
Ah.  I've read through the rear end threads but got confused.  I would like to go to an 8.8 locker but save the 4 lug. I will just suff the locker in there for now. Thanks for the heads up.

Drivetrain Tech / 86 mustang GT 8.8 rearend
So if I go get an 8.8 from the yard (lots of rustangs) I can swap my 4 lug axles from my 7.5 into the 8.8?  That sounds too easy.  I just got a 7.5" posi carrier from the yard too, dang it.

Drivetrain Tech / Bearing Press/Install Question
I have almost the same procedure as Kitz.  Except I cut the  old bearing inner race with a hacksaw and then use it to absorb the beating from the pipe while pushing the new one on.  Don't forget your pinion shims!

Drivetrain Tech / AOD issue
Sounds like your cable may be adjusted wrong.  But check the basics first.  Transblood color should be reddish clear.  Smell should be sweet  oil smell.  I am no trans expert but I have battled a fair share of AODs.  Some guys on here are true AOD Gods.  Hopefully they will chime in.

While coasting, does it seem to hold gear (eg 3 or 4) too long before letting it upshift?  This combined with the harsh 1-2 and 2-3 shift would be characteristic of a cable that is too far out (trans thinks you are heaver on the throttle than reality).

I would go read up on how to set the TV Cable  before monkeying with anything.  (http://www.txchange.com/aodadj.htm) but mark your current position.

Miscellaneous For Sale/Wanted / SN-95 dash (parting my mustang out)
Screw parting it out.  Someone would still pay good money for a car that clean.  Salvage title or not.  Some states you can get the car professionally inspected/appraised and have the title issued as rebuilt (eligible for full coverage).

Engine Tech / Strange engine activity?
Sorry, I guess I repeated someone else's post.  Jcassitys timing chain slack test is a good one to try.  I had an engine with a really stretched chain.  When I tried to time it, the spark location would jump around unpredictably (with the spout disconnected).  When I tore it down it had about an inch deflection on the timing chain.  The engine had a part throttle miss like yours, it also would have an occasional idle miss and hard starting.  It was a pretty tired engine and may have had other problems.

Engine Tech / Strange engine activity?
If it runs py with the EGR attached, the EGR diaphram is probably ruptured.

I had the exact same problems your describing when I had really old gas in the tank.  Try fresh gas and check the fuel pressure.  Perhaps the FP is getting ready to go?

Engine Tech / Strange engine activity?
It shouldn't cause a problem if its disconnected, unless it was already gummed up when disconnected.  Hopefully the vac is capped off on the engine side.

We are talking about the ones that plug into a switch  that then makes like a 1/4 turn back into place? The plugs are usually blue or black? If so I swpaped all those lights out when I had a problem, and it didn't solve anything. I think I even swapped out a cluster and it didn't solve it. I eventually gave up.

I would check your dimmer output then (inside the headlight switch).
