I have a chance to buy a near mint 1985 T-bird Anniversary with 70,000 miles on it. The problem is that it is not shifting out of 1st gear. What might cause this? I had a '83 T-bird that shifted only from 1st to 2nd. The problem was with the linkage...the part was inexpensive and cheap to have fixed. Would this be a similar fix? I am not a transmission expert...so any possible solutions would be apprecated
I found an '86 Turbo Cougar. The guy is asking $500 for it but will sell it to me for $400. It needs a new ignition silenoid and a batter to be road worthy. Runs good..doesn't burn any oil..turbo is in good working condition.
He says all the power options work, seats, windows, antennae, lights etc. The interior is in decent shape, missing an armrest and glove box door.
My main concern is the automatic transmissions Ford used in these cars. Are they good transmissions? What do I need to look for when I am driving it to know if it is good or not.
Here are some pictures of my cars...They are my personal favorites as they were given to me by my father after he passed away
1914 Model T Ford 1924 Model T Ford Mercury body Speedster...has 3 transmissions...planetary, ruxtell, warford. It will keep up with freeway traffic with no problem. 1970 Cougar (Pauline Trigère limited edition)..herringbone interior.... 63000 miles...all original...showroom condition.
The engine will idle fine, then suddenly, it will start to idle rough. It jumps from 500 rpms up to 1000 then back down again. Then...it will idle perfect again. It has died a couple of times but will start up immediately...
It has new plugs, wires, rotar, cap, timing set, checked for vaccum leaks...found one...
I thought it (rough idle) was because the engine wasn't reaching the, "closed loop" stage so I replaced the thermostat as the old one was stuck open and replaced the coolant temp. sensor. The temp gauge will come up just past the bottom line where it is the low normal zone.
Would it idle rough sparatically because the TPS is going bad?
I was considered lucky to have that '63 Rambler. In the 1970's it was cool to drive to school....it didn't matter what you drove. Most kids rode the bus to high school. I put the fake fur, which was popular back then, on the back shelf....and on the dashboard. AM radio was still what was listened to....KJRB 790 with Sunshine Shelly.
There was only one nice car I remember that a senior drove....a new Pantera...
Cool car...I bought a black '84 XR7 for parts...as it had been totalled....and it was a cool looking car!
There is rust on the trunk where a previous owner backed into a pole..thats about it for rust....I have a lot of peeling of the clearcoating....Yes, the XR7 molding is what I need. How much for just one?
Is there any XR7 or turbo badges on the rear of the '85....trunk or taillamps? Mine doesn't have any.
I have wanted this car from the first time I saw it driving down the road here in Spokane Washington. While cruising Craigs List...I found it across the state. The rain and moisture on the coast did a number on the paint, peeling clearcoat, rust on the trunk.
I just got home from driving it home...360 miles... with absolutely no problems!
A new headliner...some misc. interior parts and a paint job...and it'll be back to where it was when I first saw it.
I currently own an '85 Fila which is in near mint condition. It has all the factory options except leather interior and graphic equalizer.
I have found a 87 anniversary Cougar that is also in mint condition. It also has all the options, sunroof, power antennae etc. The asking price is $1500. It has 65000 miles on it.
