I probably misspoke. I mean the car will turn over, but won't start. It's not the starter because it will let me drive over short distance, but will eventually leave me stranded once I arrive at my destination and let it sit for a while. The gauges ie.. lights to the cluster and radio, turn signal and flashers won't come on. But I can still listen to the radio. External lights like brake light and headlight all still work. even though the gauge lights and turn signal is a big problem, but I am more concern will the engine issue.
86 cougar LS 5.0. When I drive to work or over long distance and the engine is really good and hot and I have arrived at the destination and let it sit it will not turn over. It has left me stranded when traveling to work (18miles) Or it I run errands around town I cant let the rpm get low b/c it will likely want to shut off. It started this in July. I will try to go home I would have to keep it moving or it will shut off on my while making a turn. I have a bad exhaust leak and oil do burn of the manifold. Also my instrument cluster, radio and major components went out on the inside of the car. My turn signal wont come on or make the clicking sound but my headlights will light up. I assume that stuff may be due to a fuse. Help me some advise guys, thanks in advance.
Yeah. So how can you tell if it's the alt versus the regulator? And in most case isn't it the alt or am I missing an important lesson. Plus, are our alt interchangeable with other ford vehicles or 1 on a kind.
My new battery is rated at 880 cca and when I had the charging system check the alt was loading the battery at 1100 cca and of course the volts of the alt was at 16 (this is with the new battery). I just can't believe the battery can go dead like that. Once the light came on I imediatly turn the car around. I only went 3miles b4 the turn around home. Once I got home I shut the car off with all lights and didn't turn it over until 6 days later and the battery was dead. Just can't wrap my brain around it. oh yeah the old battery was a maint batt. The new one is maint free. I bought the new batt 2day and have it outside the car right now until I replace the alt.
You are right Master Baster. My alt was tested today and it put out 16volts and had to get a new battery. Now I don't have the money to fix it until this friday (payday). I was wondering what would make it drain overnight didn't understand it.
Well my neg battery cable insulator is badly cracked and the underlying wires are exposed, but today I tried to go to work the battery was dead (no sound or clicking) I am gonna start simple and replace the neg battery cable and terminal. Here's my question lets say the neg cable is fubar and when I last ran it it was running off the alt could the battery run down or go dead with the vechile off with this sinerio? I have no acc to draw current like that. how could the battery go dead. Once I change the cable and terminal I will have the charging system check, thanks for the help.
I have a 86 ls 5.0 coug. I was just going to work and the AMP light come on with I'm on the pedal but if I stop or at very low speeds it's off. So my assumption finds that this occurance happens under a load. Now I have a ideal what it may be, but wanted you guys to do some brain storming for me to see if we concur on the problem. I would love to tell you guys what I think is the problem, but I don't want to sway ideals, Thanks in advance.
This is suppose to be the mercury capri in 2010. This car plus the ford flex and the 300hp focus are coming. What are you talking about when you say ford can't make good looking cars.
Hey guys I was wondering have any1 put the mach1 cold air kit on their cougar. The set-up that goes underneath the front bumper and is a straight set-up for a cougar. If you have pics, that might help me out visually, thanks. 86 coug ls 5.0
youpey, yes u can put the 87-88 tc hood on you vehicle there's another guy on here who an 84 bird with the tc hood. Hey vinniebird if ever your gonna bulk sell those insert. i'm game tor buying 1. but i would like to test it 1st without the insert to see how cooler the engine will become and with all that excess cool air inside i'm sure the air intake will suck it up as a indirect ram air. In theory. remember most carb setups don't have a ramair system just like my 85 ramcharger. So any and all air in the compartment is suck in by virtual blowby
There gotta be something on the market to prevent water from coming in, but allow air 2 pass through. That seems like a waste of potential, meaning cold fresh air can cool down the engine bay as well some get sucked into a cold air kit (cone style).
